School Menu Boards

Layout & Iconography

Icons and menu board designs developed for Aberdeen academies and primaries.
A three-month project that was my main undertaking during a placement with Aberdeen City Council.
The menus were designed to work both as single sheet posters and also as hard boards with changeable  menus in the centre.
The modular design allows for many different print options, even going as far as to make the sections match ISO A paper sizes.
I had developed custom food-related icons for the project, each in a lined and a silhouette version. Designs were inspired by lino prints and potato stamps.
These icons are versatile and were used to make a surrounding frame for the menu as well as the background texture for the boards.
As it is a live project that is being carried on after my placement had concluded, the entirety of the design had been adapted to be easily altered, from font choices to composition and printing options. The colour scheme has also been chosen with the intent to appeal to both younger and older students. The menus aim to look unique but reach as wide of an audience as possible.
